Privacy Policy

Last updated:

Adarie, Inc. operates Doknya and is responsible for how your personal information is used. This policy covers the Doknya app, our website, other services that link to this policy, and your communications or participation in our surveys, promotions, and events.

For questions or privacy requests, email privacy@doknya.com.

  • Saved reading data is stored on your device. Online features send the content needed for your request to our servers and service providers.
  • We store some submitted text and AI results for reuse in later requests, including requests from other users. Deleting your account does not automatically remove these saved copies.
  • We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

How to delete your account

Information we collect

What we receive depends on the features available in your version of Doknya, the features you use, and your settings. The descriptions below also cover optional features we may introduce, such as usage analytics and push notifications. We provide additional notice and obtain consent before collecting information where required.

Account information
When you sign in with an email code, Apple, or Google, we receive your email address and an account ID from your sign-in provider. The provider may also supply your name, profile picture URL, and profile URL. We create user and billing IDs and record when your account is created or updated. To keep you signed in, the app saves sign-in information in your device’s secure storage.
Purchases and subscriptions
Apple and Google provide purchase verification and subscription updates. We store purchase references and product IDs, your subscription status, renewal settings, subscription periods, and when access ends. The stores process payments; we do not receive payment card numbers or security codes.
Reading content and requests
When you use an online feature, we receive the text, images, language preferences, and context needed for reading assistance, image text recognition, recommendations, or speech generation. This may include personal information about you or others in the submitted content and generated results.
Technical and usage information
Requests include technical information such as your IP address. We record usage totals for your account to apply usage limits. We may also collect app or device IDs, app and operating system versions, information about how you use features, performance measurements, and error reports to understand usage and improve reliability.
Notifications
If notifications are available and enabled, we may process an identifier used to deliver notifications to your device, your notification settings, whether notifications were delivered, and how you interact with them. We use this information to send account updates, learning reminders, or information about app features.
Messages and participation
We receive the contact details, messages, and attachments you send us. If you join a survey, promotion, or event, we collect your responses and the details needed to manage your participation, with any additional collection explained when you take part.

Text, images, and messages you submit can contain personal information about you or other people. This can include sensitive information such as health details, religious beliefs, or government identification numbers. We do not ask you to provide sensitive information to use Doknya. If you include it, we process it as part of handling your content or request, subject to applicable law.

How we use information

We use the information described above to:

  • Provide reading and AI features, generate speech, and reuse saved results in later requests, including requests from other users.
  • Authenticate sign-ins, send sign-in codes, manage accounts, and handle support and privacy requests.
  • Verify and restore purchases, link or transfer subscriptions to the account you select, and keep paid access and renewal status current.
  • Apply usage limits, prevent fraud and abuse, diagnose errors, and understand feature usage and performance to improve Doknya.
  • Deliver enabled notifications, respond to you, and manage surveys, promotions, or events you choose to join. We may send product news or offers where permitted, with consent where required and a way to opt out of marketing messages.
  • Meet legal obligations, establish or defend legal claims, and protect someone’s life or safety where necessary.

Legal grounds

In the European Economic Area and United Kingdom, we rely on the following grounds, depending on the purpose:

  • Contract: processing needed to deliver requested features, manage accounts and purchases, or take steps you ask for before entering a contract.
  • Legitimate interests: diagnosing problems, understanding and improving usage and performance, preventing fraud, or establishing or defending claims, where necessary and not overridden by your interests, rights, and freedoms.
  • Consent: uses requiring your agreement, such as certain analytics or marketing communications. We do not rely on legitimate interests where consent is required.
  • Legal obligations or vital interests: meeting legal duties, such as responding to valid demands and keeping required records, or protecting someone’s life or safety.

In Canada, we rely on express or, where allowed, implied consent. We may also collect, use, or disclose information without consent where Canadian law permits or requires it, such as for valid legal demands, fraud investigations, or business transactions, subject to the conditions and safeguards that apply.

Before using information for a new purpose, we provide any notice and obtain any consent required by applicable law. You can withdraw consent as described below.

AI and service providers

Content processed by AI and speech providers

We use external providers for language processing, image text recognition, and speech generation. They process the content needed to run the feature and the results it produces, including text, images, text to read aloud, and personal information in that content. We handle this information under this policy and our agreements with the providers.

Other recipients

  • Sign-in providers and app stores. We exchange information with sign-in providers to sign you in. We send stores an internal billing ID to link purchases to your account, and purchase references to verify or restore subscriptions. The stores also hold their own records under the App Store privacy notice and Google privacy policy.
  • Hosting, storage, and email providers. They process information needed to host Doknya, store its records, and deliver sign-in emails on our behalf.
  • Analytics and notification providers. If we use these services, they process technical and usage information, notification identifiers, settings, and content to help us understand performance and deliver notifications.
  • Legal and safety recipients. We may disclose information to authorities, professional advisers, or other parties where necessary and lawful to meet legal obligations, establish or defend claims, prevent fraud, or protect someone’s safety.
  • Business transfers. We may disclose information during negotiations for, or as part of, a merger, financing, acquisition, or sale of business assets.

Storage, retention, and security

Our servers are in the United States and Japan. Providers may process information in these or other countries. International transfers are subject to applicable data protection requirements; contact us for information about the locations and transfer safeguards that apply to your information.

We keep personal information for as long as needed for the purposes in this policy. The law may require or permit longer retention, such as for tax or accounting records. When information is no longer needed, we delete or anonymize it.

  • Account records. While your account is open, we keep your profile, linked sign-in methods, billing ID, subscription details, access status, and usage totals to provide account and paid features. Deleting your account removes these records from our active account database. Apple and Google keep their own store records.
  • Text and AI results on our servers. Some submitted text and generated results are stored separately from account records for reuse in later requests, including requests from other users. We keep these copies while they are needed to reuse results, taking account of storage, privacy, and security needs. We delete or anonymize them when they are no longer needed. Deleting your account does not automatically remove these copies; contact us to request deletion of personal information in submitted content.
  • Support and operational records. Retention of messages, diagnostics, analytics, and notification records depends on the time needed to resolve requests, investigate problems, understand usage trends, or deliver notifications, as well as legal requirements.

Copies may remain in backups or operational logs until deleted or overwritten. These copies follow the same retention rules. If immediate deletion is not possible, we securely store the information and isolate it from further use until deletion is possible.

Security

We use technical and organizational safeguards to protect personal information. No transmission or storage system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee protection against unauthorized access, theft, or alteration.

Your choices and account deletion

  • Device permissions. The app may request camera or photo library access to process images you select. If another permission is needed, we explain it when requesting access. You can change permissions in your device settings.
  • Notifications and marketing. You can turn push notifications off in device settings and use the opt-out instructions in marketing messages.
  • Consent and analytics. Where required, we ask before collecting optional analytics data. You can withdraw consent for processing that relies on it by contacting us. Withdrawal does not affect earlier lawful processing or processing based on other lawful grounds.

Tracking preferences

We do not respond to Do-Not-Track browser signals. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

Delete your account

  1. Open Settings → Doknya Plus.
  2. If you are signed out, tap Sign in in the Account section.
  3. Tap Delete account and confirm.
  4. If asked, cancel your subscription through the App Store or Google Play. Then return to Doknya to finish deleting your account. You can delete it immediately after cancelling, even if you still have paid time remaining.

To request account deletion outside the app, email privacy@doknya.com.

Deletion ends access through that account and removes the account records described under retention. Saved reading data stays on your device. Using Doknya on another device where you are still signed in may create a new account.

Deleting your account does not cancel your subscription or automatically give you a refund. Signing out or uninstalling Doknya does not delete your account. Contact us if you need help with cancellation or deletion.

Your privacy rights

Your rights depend on where you live and which laws apply. In regions including the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, Switzerland, Canada, and US states with applicable privacy laws, these may include:

  • Accessing your information and receiving a copy.
  • Correcting inaccurate information or requesting deletion.
  • Restricting or objecting to processing.
  • Receiving information in a portable format.
  • Challenging solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects and requesting human review.
  • Exercising privacy rights without discrimination.

Email privacy@doknya.com to exercise your rights. Where necessary and permitted, we verify your identity or authority before acting. Information supplied for a request is used to verify and handle it and keep legally required records. Where law allows, an authorized agent may act for you; we may ask for proof of their authority. We handle requests and any limits or exceptions under applicable law.

European and Swiss complaints

If you believe we have unlawfully processed your information, you can complain to your EEA data protection authority, the UK Information Commissioner’s Office, or the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner, as applicable.
